ProMaster's front-wheel-drive layout and flat floor give builders a bit more flexibility in where things go, and that shows up in water heater placement too. A lot of ProMaster builds tuck the unit into a cabinet near the rear or under a bench without fighting drivetrain components in the middle of the van.

Engine-coolant systems are a popular choice among ProMaster owners specifically because the "heat while you drive" tradeoff fits well with how a lot of ProMaster builds get used: regular daily driving with the water heating passively along the way, backed up by an electric element for stationary days.

If you're running a diesel hydronic heating system already (a common upgrade on Promaster builds for winter comfort), a combo system that shares heat between your cabin heater and water heater is worth strong consideration before adding a completely separate appliance. It's more efficient use of the fuel and space you're already committing to.

For builders going electric-only, the installation is about as simple as it gets on a Promaster: flat floor, generous cabinet space in most layouts, and no drivetrain tunnel to route around like you'd have in a Sprinter or Transit.

Whichever route you choose, plan your water heater location at the same time as your fresh water tank and plumbing runs. Retrofitting it after cabinetry is built is a much bigger headache than planning it in from the start.
