Diesel Air Heater + Hot Water Combos: How They Work Together

The Basic Idea

Your diesel heater already produces hot air (and in some setups, hot coolant or exchanger heat) to warm the cabin. A combo or "air flow heat" water heater setup taps into that same heat source through a heat exchanger, so your water gets warmed as a byproduct of running the heater you already have for warmth, without burning extra fuel just for hot water.

When This Makes the Most Sense

Cold-weather builds where the diesel heater runs regularly anyway. If you're mostly camping in mild climates and rarely run a cabin heater, you won't get much benefit from this path and a standalone electric or engine-coolant system may serve you better.

What It Doesn't Replace

You'll still want an electric backup element for warm-weather trips when your diesel heater isn't running, or for quick top-ups when you haven't had the heater on long enough to build meaningful hot water. Install Consideration
